Supermarket chain Tesco has been spotted unloading an HGV during new banned hours in Putney High Street for the second time in a week.

Wandsworth Council announced in November that lorries and HGVs would be banned from loading and unloading on the High Street between 7am and 7pm Monday to Saturday from January 11.

January 18: Tesco flout Putney High Street lorry loading ban within three days of enforcement

January 8: Putney High Street exceeds harmful gas emission just eight days into the year

November 23: Vans to be banned on Putney High Street from January in bid to improve air quality

The ban is intended to help traffic flow smoothly through the area and improve air quality.

It came into force three days after the High Street was found to have exceeded the legal annual limit of nitrogen oxide.

On the first occasion, a Tesco spokesman said: "We do our best to be a good neighbour and have reiterated the new delivery restrictions to our depots and drivers."

A spokesman added: "We’re very sorry for this further incident."

On Monday, a spokesman for Wandsworth Council said: "We will be raising this with Tesco and reminding them of the new rules and their corporate responsibility to support our efforts to improve traffic flow and air quality in Putney High Street."

Wandsworth Council has been contacted for further comment.
