I read your recent letter regarding the garden waste collection in Wandsworth with interest and I'm sorry to hear that a resident has experienced a problem.
Our refuse crews will collect up to five bags of garden waste as part of the weekly general rubbish service and, unlike many boroughs, since April 2012 this service has been free of charge in Wandsworth.
The costs of disposing of garden waste have been absorbed, rather than passed on to residents and the vast majority of the 137,000 properties benefitting from the service do so without any problems.
Occasionally collections are missed and in these cases we would encourage residents to contact us so that incomplete collections can be remedied as soon as possible.
Councillor Jonathan Cook; Cabinet Member for Environment, Wandsworth Council
