Firefighters rescued one person from a ground-floor flat in Clapham late last night (December 28).

Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to Victoria Rise at 10.55pm.

One person was rescued from the home, while another left the address before the brigade arrived. Both were checked over by paramedics once safely outside.

The fire was brought under control by 11.36pm by crews from Clapham, Battersea and Brixton.

It damaged more than half of the home. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters rescued one person from a flat fire on Victoria Rise in Clapham.

“Over half of the ground floor flat was damaged by the blaze. A further person left the property before the Brigade arrived.

“London Ambulance Service crews assessed patients at the scene. The Brigade was called at 10.55pm and the fire was under control by 11.36pm.

“Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters from Clapham, Battersea and Brixton fire stations attended the incident.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
