Fans of the hit BBC show, Sherlock, have been offered an update on the future of the detective series.
Co-creator and co-writer of the show, Steven Moffat, opened up about the potential for a fifth series of Sherlock.
The series, starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role and Martin Freeman as Dr John Watson, last aired in 2017.
The show is now nearing the 10-year mark in its hiatus, with fans eager for more, and Moffat has offered an exciting update.
Sherlock creator hints at future of hit BBC show
Moffat co-created and co-wrote Sherlock with Mark Gatiss, who also starred in the series as Mycroft Holmes.
Recently, Moffat appeared on the Half Picture podcast and discussed the show's future, sharing, "If I can persuade everybody else, of course I'd revisit it.
"Can you ever say that you've run out of Sherlock Holmes stories? There are 60 originals. We've done, what is it, 13 or 14?"
"There's loads more you could do with Sherlock. I'd quite like to revisit it simply because they would now - our two leads - be the normal age for Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson.
"We were conscious that we were doing the beginning of the story… So I'd quite like to see them as their more middle-aged, settled versions. I don't think it's used up."
The TV writer also chatted about his time working on Sherlock, describing it as "excellent".

Moffat added, "I loved that show. I look at it now, and I watch it, and I think all of it is excellent.
"I just think it’s really well made, beautifully acted, and dare I say it, beautifully written show. I think it's cracking. And I’m massively proud of it. And I miss it."
