Bidvest is the latest company to flout the Putney High Street ban on lorries and vans loading and unloading which has been in force for two weeks.

The lorry was spotted on Thursday at about 11am.

HGVs and vans are banned from stopping to make deliveries along the High Street between 7am and 7pm, Mondays to Saturdays.

Since it was introduced on January 11, Tesco lorries have been spotted twice breaking the rule, and the driver was fined £130 on the second occasion.

A council spokesman said: "We will be speaking to the store manager and reminding them that these rules have been introduced to improve the quality of the air that their customers breathe.

"If consumers see local shops flouting these important new environmental regulations then they may feel inclined to take their custom elsewhere."

The ban was announced in November, in an attempt to help traffic flow through the area and to cut down on air pollution in Putney.

Levels of nitrogen oxide exceeded annual legal limits in Putney High Street within eight days of 2016.

A Bidvest spokesman said: "Now that we are aware of the new rules, we have put measures in place to ensure these are adhered to.

"In the short term, we can confirm that we will use a smaller vehicle for deliveries to customers in the restricted area.

"Longer term, we are looking to move deliveries to a Sunday or later in the evening after 7pm."
